ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) – Voters in west St. Louis County will decide on a property tax increase at the polls Tuesday.

The Metro West Fire Protection District is asking voters to approve Proposition V, a property tax increase of 17 cents per $100 of assessed value. According to the fire district, the increase would cost the average resident $7 a month.

The district has had the same tax rate since 1986. Since then, the department has more than twice the number of employees and two more fire stations.

The fire district responds to over 5,000 calls a year.
