FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A man is facing charges for allegedly stealing from someone who overdosed on heroin in Franklin County.

Joshua Day is charged with distribution of a controlled substance.

Police say he and a Pacific man drove into St. Louis on October 31 to buy heroin.

The next day, the two were the victim’s car outside the Daniel Boone Motel in Gray Summit when police say Day went up to his room. When he returned a few hours later, the victim was dead in the passenger seat.

Police say Day then stole the victim’s keys, wallet and cellphone. He is also accused of taking the remaining heroin. Police say he also covered the victim's body with a sheet.

Authorities allege Day then disposed the keys and cellphone as part an effort to hide them from police.

Day was arrested on November 4 in Union.

He is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
