3 dead, 14 injured in violent weekend across St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- A violent weekend in St. Louis claimed three lives and injured 14, as police responded to 15 separate incidents.

The violence, primarily fueled by gunfire, spanned four days and peppered areas all over the city.

It began Friday, when witnesses say they saw a black man in a dark jacket open fire on a group of bystanders in the 4000 block of Lindell. Police say they heard 15-20 shots and when they arrived on the scene, saw a suspect get into a silver Ford Focus with Missouri temporary tags  and flee the scene. There were at least two other people in the car.

Police followed the car into the area of Grand and Highway 40 before calling off the pursuit. Witnesses on scene say at least one man was shot, but police couldn’t find the victim.

Saturday (3 dead, 3 wounded, 1 critical)

Just before 6 a.m., A 53-year-old cab driver was standing next to his car in the 2800 block of Meramec. A black male in a dark hoodie reportedly got out of a white Impala and started walking toward him. The driver saw a gun and fled, and as he was running away, the suspect shot him in his ankle. He was taken to the hospital and is stable. The suspect fled the scene in the driver’s cab.

Around noon, 45-year-old Lamonte Richard was discovered at the corner of Newstead and Ashland with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police are still investigating.

At 4:45p.m., 21-year-old Chazz Bridges was shot in the head outside of a car in the 7900 block of Church.  Police arrived on scene to find him dead. They’re searching for suspect Daniel Williams, a 35-year-old black man with a mustache and beard and tattoos on his arm. He was wearing a grey sweatshirt and blue jeans at the time of the shooting.

18 minutes later, a 48-year-old man was shot in the back by an unknown suspect driving a grey, older model Chevy Impala. Witnesses said the two men were arguing, and the suspect went to get a gun from his car and shot the victim in the back. Police found him lying on the ground in the 4900 block of St. Louis Avenue, and he was taken to the hospital where he is stable.

Just before 9 p.m, Roger White, 52, was shot to death in the 4800 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Police found White laying in the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Sunday (9 wounded, 6 critical)

Just after Midnight, two men were shot while driving on Union Boulevard. As the two men, 43 and 51, approached Bircher, a dark-coloured sedan pulled up alongside them.

The people inside the sedan opened fire on the two men, striking the 43-year-old in the neck and the 51-year-old in his arm.

The younger victim is in critical condition.

10 minutes later, an 18-year-old was walking on Enright when an unknown assailant appeared and started firing at him. He was shot in the back and taken to the hospital in critical condition, but is said to be stable.

Not 20 minutes later, a 49-year-old man was leaving a residence in the 3700 block of Lee when he was shot in a drive-by.

The man didn’t see the vehicle, but heard the shots and realized he was hit in the leg. He was taken to the hospital and is stable.

The violence stopped until mid-morning, when a 20-year-old man was shot in his side during a drive-by. He was walking in the 5700 block of Thekla just after 10 a.m. when a new-model Nissan pulled up next to him and the driver opened fire. He was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Shortly after 3 p.m., a 30-year-old man was riding in a vehicle in the 3400 block of Geraldine when a black SUV pulled alongside and gunfire peppered the vehicle. The victim was shot in the back and the suspect, described as a black man between 25 and 30 years old with a medium build, light complexion, short hair and a tattoo of a cross under his right eye, fled the scene.

The victim is listed in critical condition.

At 9:30 that night, a 58-year-old man was sleeping in his van in the 5500 block of Tennessee when a stranger opened the door. The stranger asked him for a lighter, and when he said he didn’t have one, the stranger pulled him out of the van, pulled a gun and shot him in the chest.

Incredibly, the victim was able to drive himself to the hospital. He’s currently in critical condition.

An hour later, two people in their 20s were shot outside a home in the 4400 block of North 19th Street.

One victim, a 27-year-old man, was shot multiple times and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Once at the hospital, police say he was in possession of substance suspected to be heroin.

The other victim, a 22-year-old woman, was sitting in a car when the shots rang out. She was hit twice in the leg and was taken to the hospital. Two guns were found at the scene.

Monday (2 wounded, 1 critical)

Two minutes after midnight, a 27-year-old was found lying in the street against a curb in the 3800 block of Michigan with multiple gunshot wounds. He had been shot in both legs and his buttocks and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

There is no information on what led to the shooting.

Lastly, just after 9 a.m., a 35-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in the 3600 block of Page.
