ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A new European-inspired hotel is coming to York Ave. in the Central West End. It's a new branch by Marriott Hotels called AC.

It'll be built on York Ave. behind the Chase Park Plaza Parking garage, between Euclid Ave. and Lindell Blvd. It's estimated to open in the summer of 2019.

Timothy James has been working in the CWE neighborhood for the last 6.5 years, and says he's all about an opportunity bring more jobs to the area, "Put more people to work," said James.

A spokesperson for this project tells News 4 the AC Hotel will have 192 rooms and be seven stories high. It is one of 75 new AC Hotels by Marriott being constructed nationwide.

"I think it would definitely be competition for the hotels that are here now," said James.

The corner of Euclid Ave. and York Ave. is already beautified and walkable. The AC Hotel hopes to draw that foot traffic down York Ave. However, 25-year CWE resident Jim McMahan thinks too many people will ruin the neighborhood.

"Downtown should be the high-density area of the city, not the Central West End," said McMahan.

He thinks the neighborhood should put money and energy into other things like safety and improving schools.

"There are a lot of other priorities that I think the community needs, not another hotel," said McMahan.

The CWE Neighborhood Association's Planning and Development committee tells News 4 they have already met with the hotel and the committee is supportive of the project.

News 4 asked the lead developers why they chose CWE as the location of this new hotel. In a statement by Andy Holloran, president of HomeBase Partners, the lead developer of the project, says:

“The West End is one of America’s great neighborhoods and we’re excited to bring a marquee property to a thriving neighborhood we love. Since we are proposing a limited service hotel, the West End’s  walkable access to bars, restaurants and shops makes it the ideal location for this type of property.”

Pending the approval of city permits, construction on this hotel will begin early next year.
