ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Five World War II medals that were accidentally donated were returned to the family of a deceased veteran.

Five medals, including a Purple Heart, were dropped off at the downtown Goodwill Center on Market Street.

Goodwill did a little digging and found out the medals belonged to Dr. Melvin Cox, a Belleville resident who has passed away.

"We were able to locate an individual, we're excited to be able to do that," said President Dave Kutchbak.

Mers-Goodwill was able to contact the family and return the medals.
