AVISTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) - More than half $500,000  was on the line Wednesday night in Clinton County, Illinois.

A $578,952 jackpot was up for grabs during a Queen of Hearts Drawing at the Aviston American Legion.

It’s simple. Each ticket costs a dollar. A ticket is pulled and the winner gets to pick a card. If that card is the Queen of Hearts you win it all. If not, the drawing happens again the next week, until you’re down to the final card.

“We were here last week and got disappointed so had to come back,” said Shirley Eichelberger from Shiloh.

This week there were 13 cards left, one being the Queen of Hearts.

Karl Netemuier had the lucky ticket that was drawn and he chose to uncover Card 22.

It was a Joker.

“It would have been nice if it was the Queen of Hearts, you know,” said Netemuier.

He still won $1,500 and said he’ll be back next week for a higher pot during the drawing on Wednesday, November 1.

20 percent of the money raised stays with the Legion and the rest goes in the jackpot.

The Legion is planning to use the money for renovations to their hall including handicap accessible restrooms and ramps.
