SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Two children were inside a car when shots rang out in south St. Louis Wednesday afternoon.

The children, ages 7 and 9, were inside a car with their mom in the 3400 block of Michigan when the shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. Police said the children’s mom was talking with a woman and man when a newer-model burgundy or red sedan, possibly a Chrysler Kia, drove by and someone inside fired shots.

As the mom tried driving away, the suspect vehicle followed her and someone inside continued shooting. The mom then lost control of her vehicle and hit three parked cars.

A 31-year-old man was shot in the thigh and taken to the hospital and listed as stable. A 52-year-old woman was injured when she fell and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The children had no visible injuries but were taken to the hospital to be checked. The children’s mother was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
