ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A St. Louis man is recovering after he was shot while walking his dog.

The dog is doing okay. Investigators are trying to figure out why Tim Galos was shot, and he's wondering why him.

Heather, a Blue Heeler, and her owner Galos' walk along Oregon Avenue last Monday put both within feet of a man ready to harm.

Galos passed the mystery man, but the Blue Heeler stopped and barked.

"Which is odd because she's a very sweet dog and doesn't bark at all, except for around certain people," said Galos.

Galos turned around.

"That's when I saw him shoot me once in the chest. At that point, I was shocked and didn't realize what was going on. I turned around and ran away," added Galos.

Galos said the stranger kept firing shots.

"It was a feeling of unfairness at first. Which is an odd feeling to feel, but, it was like what the hell, you know? This isn't right. This isn't fair," added Galos.

Renata Galos, who was on the phone with her son last Monday, led News 4 into the alley where he was shot.

"I heard a pop. I did not recognize it to be a shot. I said, 'Tim?' Then, the phone sounded like it had dropped," said Renata Galos.

Left hanging on the phone, and stuck in Indiana, she called Tim's name again.

"I felt a motherly thing. You know? Like something is not right here," added Renata Galos.

Sherita Edwards and her niece saw Galos stumbling after being shot.

"We heard about 4-5 gunshots," said Sherita Edwards. "I did not know at the time, who it was when I went out there. He just had this blank stare on his face," added Edwards.

Galos told News 4 the shooter did not take anything from him. Doctors hope to let Galos leave the hospital tomorrow.

Friends and family have set-up a GoFundMe account to help with medical bills.
