Revitalization of Jamestown Mall continues with purchase of final 2 parcels

Posted: Updated:

The plan to revitalize the Jamestown Mall took another step, the St. Louis County Executive announced Tuesday.

Steve Stenger announced the St. Louis Port Authority purchased the final two parcels of the Jamestown Mall. The mall has been permanently closed since 2014 and was declared, "blighted", by the County Planning Commission.

"Since I took office, the revitalization of the Jamestown Mall has been a top priority of my administration," Stenger said.

Stenger said the plans to get to where they are now go back to 2015 when he met with the Jamestown owners. Now, the completion of the recent sale is expected to close in late-December.

"We want to see development in this area," says North County resident Wendell Parrish.

According to St. Louis County, an open house will occur in the coming weeks to detail the plans for the near future and receive more input from the public. County residents can receive updates to the redevelopment plans and see progress photos at the county's website.

Stenger says he doesn't think a mall will be the future of the site but rather a mixed use development of retail and commercial businesses.

While the property was deemed blighted, crews are currently working to clear the hazardous waste and other items from the site. Soon after, demolition is expected to begin.
