ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A double homicide investigation is underway after two people were shot in south St. Louis overnight.
Megan Nieder, 27, and Joseph Finger, 40, were shot to death in the area of Minnesota and Bellerive in the Carondelet neighborhood just before 1:20 a.m. Tuesday. Following the shooting, an unknown suspect was seen leaving the area on foot.
When police arrived at the scene they found a motorcycle that was reported stolen on Sept. 27.
Police said it's unclear if the victims were riding the motorcycle when they were shot.
"It's just heartbreaking that's all I can say to it," said Nieder family friend Chris Arman. "How this all came about is just mind-boggling."
Arman said Nieder's family was already facing hardship. Her father's being treated after breaking his neck during a fall in September.
"He had to go back into the hospital," said Arman. "Then, about 3 hours later, we got the call."
The call that the Nieders' only child was now gone.
"It's heartbreaking to lose your child, but your only child and in such a brutal way," said Arman.
Friends of Finger told News 4 he was a father of 5 children.
Loved ones of both victims want answers regarding who would do this and why.
"That's where we are right now," said Arman. "We don't know where to start or who to ask."
The investigation is ongoing.
