ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- A University City man who posed as a firefighter in order to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl pled guilty in court Tuesday.

In 2013, 39-year-old Mark Bush reportedly pretended to be a firefighter to gain the victim’s trust and lure her to his car. He was a recruit for the St. Louis Fire Department at the time.

According to police, Bush then gave the girl alcohol and drove her to a motel in the 4500 block of Natural Bridge Avenue.

Once there, police say he sexually abused the girl

Bush was dismissed from the fire department early in his training in 2013, with the department citing “egregious personal character and background issues.” He was charged in 2016 for the crime.

Bush pled guilty to charges of statutory sodomy, statutory rap, child molestation and supplying alcohol to a minor.

He was sentenced to five years in prison plus five years probation. He also received a 20-year suspended sentence, meaning were he to violate probation, he would go to prison for two decades.

Bush had a previous conviction for promoting prostitution in 2015.
