St. Louis man claims he accidentally shot, killed friend during argument

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A suspect is in custody after a 36-year-old man was killed in Breckenridge Hills Tuesday night.

Police say 37-year-old Troy Whitaker is charged with second-degree murder, one count of armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. 

According to the probable cause statement, the victim and Whitaker were friends and the victim was at Whitaker's home when an argument occurred. Witnesses in the home told police, Whitaker and the victim started arguing when the Whitaker to leave his house.

One witness says Whitaker then pulled out a gun and pointed at the victim. Police say the suspect shot the victim in the head, causing his death. 

Whitaker called police and admitted to shooting the victim but claimed it was an accident. 

Police say 36-year-old Anthony Jackson was identified as the shooting victim. 

The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons was called to assist the Breckenridge Hills Police Department after a man was shot and killed outside of a home in the 3300 block of Edmundson Road around 8:30 p.m.

A 38-year-old suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

According to police, the suspect and victim were known to one another and were in an argument before the fatal shooting.

No other details have been released.
