Suspect on the loose after officer injured during struggle at South City Schnucks

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – One suspect is in custody and another is on the loose after an officer was injured during a confrontation at a south St. Louis Schnucks early Tuesday morning.

The suspects were trying to steal liquor bottles from the store on Hampton at Chippewa when a police sergeant arrived and tried to take them into custody, according to police. While trying to take the two into custody, a struggle ensued and one of the men threatened to hit the sergeant on the head with a bottle before being arrested. The second suspect escaped.

The sergeant sustained a cut on his hand and was treated at the scene. The arrested suspect was taken to the hospital after being cut on the face. 

The investigation is ongoing.
