The Blues have swapped out a pair of rookie forwards as the team continues to tinker with its roster early in the season. The team announced Friday it has recalled forward Sammy Blais from San Antonio (AHL) and has sent another rookie, Tage Thompson, in the other direction to complete the roster move.
After impressing in camp, the 21-year-old Blais narrowly missed making the St. Louis roster out of camp. Having carried over that success into a short stint with the San Antonio Rampage—three goals and four total points across two games—the Blues are ready to give him his first crack at the NHL.
Tage Thompson was a surprise to make the roster initially, and only had the opportunity to do so because of several injuries to the Blues forward corps. Thompson, 19, dressed in four of the Blues first five games, but hadn’t exactly taken the league by storm. Originally a first-round pick by the Blues in 2016, Thompson can use his taste of the NHL as motivation to get back in the future.
