ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Growth in the classroom is important. But growth as individuals is just as important.

The AESM Middle School, just south of downtown St. Louis, is starting a three-year program that focuses on growing the character of their students. The administrators of the school hope it will have a change in the students' lives. The initiative is called the Character Plus Program.

Ceandre Perry, the school's principal, said the program's goal is to equip the students with what they will need in high school and the "real world."

"If you don't have good character traits, students can struggle in the real world," Perry said.
