A suspect is now in custody after the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said he fled from deputies and displayed a firearm last week.

Authorities identified the suspect as Paul Wallace from the St. Clair area.

On Oct. 6, a deputy tried to stop a Wallace, who was riding a motorcycle, around 4:09 p.m., but the suspect did not stop. A second deputy witnessed the pursuit approaching the 7900 block of Highway O, and attempted to intercept Wallace.

Wallace, 34, saw the second deputy and crossed into the eastbound lane and purposely drove into a ditch before leaving the cycle on foot, the sheriff's office said. After a 50-60 yard foot chase, Wallace fell while trying to cross a barbed-wire fence that led into a pasture. When he got up, the sheriff's office said Wallace pulled a firearm from his waistband and fire a round into the air as deputies approached his location.

When a deputy had Wallace at gunpoint, the sheriff's office said he either threw the gun or lost his control over the weapon, ultimately leading to the deputy taking him to the ground and into custody.

Wallace was found to have felony warrant in Warren County for Burglary and Stealing, the sheriff's office said. He has since been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Driving While Revoked.

He has been set with a $25,000 cash-only bond.
