ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley has announced he is running for the U.S. Senate.

Hawley released a video Tuesday morning announcing he is running for the GOP nomination in the August 2018 primary.

In the video, Hawley says current Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo, has “been in DC forever” and has “turned her back on farmers, ignored working families, she’s been wrong on every Supreme Court nominee for the last 11 years.”

McCaskill will be seeking a third term on the November 2018 ballot.

In Kansas City, during  a town hall meeting, McCaskill was critical of Hawley entering the race.

"I believe Josh Hawley has spent more time talking to insiders in Washington in the last four months than he has Missourians," McCaskill said.

"He hasn't answered any questions, he won't answer if he's for repeal and replace, he won't answer questions about DACA, he won't even tell us frankly where he lives."

In South St. Louis, Republican Senator Roy Blunt stopped short of endorsing Hawley.

"I have not made one yet, but I expect I will be," Blunt said.
