ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A wooden cross wrapped in superhero socks and Green Bay Packers colors, it's is the way workers at Auto Butler Car Wash are remembering a colleague gone too soon.

The Alton, Ill. business was closed Monday after one of its workers was killed in a tragic crash Sunday afternoon.

"The most caring person in the world," said Michael Randall.

Michael Randall described Robert "Big Rob" Dorsey, a man he's known since 2013. Dorsey was assistant manager at Auto Butler for the last six years.

Alton Police told News 4 Dorsey was behind the wheel of a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee cleaning the windows when officers suspect he accidentally stepped on the gas, driving straight into a ditch.

First responders said the 42-year-old was found dead with a broken neck in the upside-down vehicle.

"He really cared about his job and spent a lot of time here," said Randall. "It's not going to be the same without him."

Auto Butler employees still doubt that Dorsey caused the crash, citing several cases involving the popular SUV allegedly accelerating on its own.

In 2006, Connecticut U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal urged federal regulators to look into the issue.

News 4 reached out to Jeep's parent company, Chrysler for comment.

"Comprehensive studies by safety regulators...plus dozens of independent analyses all reached the same conclusion: these incidents are caused by driver error," said Chrysler spokesman Michael Palese.

Still, people like Randall are standing by their belief that Dorsey did nothing wrong.

"He was a mentor to me," said Randall. "He was here every day for me. He knew everything about me. He cared."

News 4 talked to workers at other area car washes. Some businesses no longer allow older model Jeep Grand Cherokees as a result of potential malfunctions.

The Madison County Coroner's Office is still working to determine the exact cause of Dorsey's death.
