ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – After three weeks of protests and street demonstrations over the Jason Stockley verdict, protesters and activists met with city judges Monday.

At least two St. Louis City judges met with the protesters and activists at the Carnahan Courthouse at 9 a.m. News 4’s Ray Preston said there were about 45 protesters and activists at the meeting. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney and representatives of the police force were also in attendance.

Judge Jimmie Edwards, who called the meeting, said this is the first time he knows of judges coming off the bench to call a session like this. He also said he does not want the meeting to be a venting session for complaints but he is looking for real ideas and solutions.

Many of the suggestions in the meeting were aimed at building up trust between police and the neighborhoods they patrol, such as getting officers out of their cars and walking the streets, stricter city residency requirements for officers, increased de-escalation and ongoing implicit bias training for officers.
