A 70-year-old man was robbed and beaten while attempting to get home in late September.

“It was a bad situation, a horrific situation, they just beat me up,” said the victim, Michael Evans.

Evans is a retired juvenile officer, a Vietnam veteran, and he’s lived in the Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood for 40 years.

On Sept. 24 after returning home from visiting his sister, Evans was brutally attacked.

“I got out of my car to get items out of the hatchback and looked back and saw two guys getting out the passengers and a third guy and I started getting really concerned,” said Evans.

Moments later, one of the men pulled out a gun, according to Evans.

“He pointed the gun at me and said give me your money,” said Evans.

Evans said he started defending himself but was knocked to the ground.

“When I got up from the ground the guys were running back to their car and I reached for my phone to call the police and I did not have my phone or my wallet,” said Evans.

Officers did respond but said there was little they could do.

“The police are saying they are overwhelmed, not many policemen on the force, then the protests are going on and they are focusing most of their attention on that,” said Evans.

The victim said his street is dark and he could not get a good look at the men who attacked him, but he says they drove off in a small white 4-door car.
