Rock Hill puts pause on plan for fire consolidation with other cities

Posted: Updated:
ROCK HILL (KMOV.com) -

Rock Hill has decided to put plans for a fire department merger with other cities on hold.

The city was one of five St. Louis County towns wanting to consolidate fire departments as part of an effort to improve service and reduce costs. The other cities involved in the effort included Richmond Heights, Clayton, Brentwood and Richmond Heights.

The joint command would have established a unified command to oversee fire responses. Each city would keep its fire department but they would all serve under one chief.

Rock Hill said the merger would have cost the city too much money in the short term.
