Fairview Heights businesses evacuated, shut down due to 'major gas leak'

The Boston Market in Fairview Heights was among several businesses that were closed to incoming traffic following a major gas leak inside the building on Thursday afternoon.

The building was eventually completely shut down following the evacuation, and officials urged the public to avoid the area and obey all public safety officials.

Fairview Heights Fire Department responded to the scene.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency made the announcement on their Facebook page.

The all clear was later given.
