It was a close call on Tuesday for a mother and her children in New York's Central Park.

Witnesses said the woman was walking with her three children, two in a stroller and a third strapped to her chest, when a tree came toppling down on top of them.

We were running at her, she was coming at us with her kids in the double stroller, she had a baby strapped to her chest," said Jack Jones, a witness. "And all of a sudden we just heard a loud branch breaking which turned out to be this giant tree falling and it fell on her and her kids and pinned them."

The woman was knocked unconscious.

"We were able to pull the branches back and get the three and four-year-old out pretty easily. But the baby was strapped to her so that took a little bit," said Jones.

Emergency workers took her and the three children to the hospital.

The children are in serious condition, but more because of their age and less because of their injuries.

The woman is currently in critical but stable condition.
