Police searching for carjacking suspect involved in police pursuit, accident on I-44

A carjacking suspect remains at-large after leading authorities in a chase from Sullivan to a wooded area near St. Clair, Missouri.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said a victim pulled their vehicle into a Sullivan gas station on Aug. 14 and left the vehicle to head into the store. The victim left the vehicle unlocked and running. When the victim exited the store, he found the male suspect getting into the vehicle and driving off.

When the suspect exited the station, he struck another vehicle on the Interstate 44 overpass before traveling east on I-44.

Sullivan Police were called by the victims of the accident, who were not injured. The victims themselves then pursued the stolen suspect vehicle.

While being pursued by deputies, the suspect exited the interstate at the 242 overpass. But during his exit, he lost control and struck an embankment. Upon their arrival, the deputies saw the suspect escape into the wooded area on foot, east of St. Clair.

Despite a helicopter search and searches from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, St. Clair Police, and deputies, the suspect remains at-large.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office and Sullivan Police are conducting efforts to identify and locate the suspect.
