MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

The Madison County Sheriff's Office is cautioning the public to be observant when returning to their homes following two separate incidents of armed carjackings.

Both armed carjackings happened in the Village of Godfrey.

The incidents occurred on June 29 and Aug. 13. In both cases, female victims returned to their homes after running errands and were approached by armed male suspects. The suspects threatened to shoot the victims and fled the scene with their vehicles without inflicting harm.

In the June 29 incident, the vehicle was found days later after being involved in a fatal accident in St. Louis County, where the suspect died. The stolen vehicle in the Aug. 13 incident was found in south St. Louis after being involved in an accident. The suspect in that case is still not found by police and authorities are actively looking for the suspect.

The Sheriff's Office is advising the public to be vigilant when they return to their homes at night. They also advise to be very observant of any suspicious activity before exiting their vehicle. Any unusual behavior or activities should be reported to the local authorities.

If someone finds themselves as the victim during an armed carjacking or robbery, the Sheriff's Office said the safest course of action is cooperation.

Anyone with information regarding the listed incidents should contact the Sheriff's Office at 618-692-4433, or the anonymous tip line at 618-296-3000.
