(Meredith) – Emergency crews are reportedly on the scene of a helicopter crash just outside of Charlottesville, Virginia, the site of a deadly clash between white supremacists and counter protestors.

The incident happened just after 5 p.m. EST near a golf course just east of town.

The local newspaper Daily Progress reports that the aircraft involved was a Virginia State Police chopper. WSET-TV reports emergency crews are on the scene but are releasing not details at this time.

Witnesses reportedly told local media that the chopper was seen flying low over homes in the area before going down in the area of golf course.

There is no word on injuries.

The police helicopter was in the area as a result of violent white supremacists rally and counter-protest on Sunday.  It was during this violence that a car slammed into a street crowded with people, killing one person and injuring 19 others.
