ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The ribbon cutting for the renovated Civic Center Transit Center will take place Thursday morning.

In April 2016, construction began on the $10.5 million redesign project at 14th and Spruce.  Federal funding covered 80 percent of the total cost.

The expanded and improved transit center houses 19 bus bay and serves 23 bus routes. It has also been redesigned for future transit needs and can be easily modified for both 60-foot buses and electric buses. The new center also has an indoor waiting area with restrooms, digital bus arrival time boards and a concession area.

To celebrate the opening, riders will be able to attend a public open house by catching a free ride from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 11 between the Union Station and Laclede’s Landing MetroLink Stations:

  • Laclede’s Landing MetroLink Station
  • Convention Center MetroLink Station
  • 8th and Pine MetroLink Station
  • Stadium MetroLink Station
  • Civic Center MetroLink Station
  • Union Station MetroLink Station

The special free-ride zone will also apply on the #99 Downtown Trolley MetroBus route

The open house will have food, music, a bus painting and appearances from Fredbird and Louie. MetroBus service will officially resume at the station on Monday, Aug. 14.
