Man arrested after reporting his own alleged armed robbery to police

EAST ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

An East Alton man is in jail after reporting a robbery to police that he was suspected of committing.

Joshua L.T. Franklin, 19, allegedly robbed the Wood River Market on East Edwardsville Road on Aug. 4 at approximately 7:45 p.m., according to police.

Following the reported robbery, a description of the suspect was quickly identified. 

Within an hour of the reported armed robbery, East Alton Police reported a subject matching the suspect's description was inside the lobby of their police department wanting to report a robbery in Wood River.

Officers quickly arrived to the East Alton Police Department and identified the subject to be the suspect in the robbery he was attempting to report.  He was then taken into custody.

A search warrant was obtained for Franklin's residence at the 100 block of South Pence in East Alton where clothing, currency and a weapon was recovered.

Franklin has been charged with a felony armed robbery and is being held on a $125,000 bond.
