ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A pair of suspects have been arrested in a shooting that injured two adults and occurred when a child was in the back of the victims' vehicle.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. near Dr. Martin Luther King and Belt Avenue in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood. Police said the victims are a 25 year-old man and a 24 year-old woman, and their conditions are currently unknown. They were found by officers responding to the scene.

The victims told police they were driving eastbound on Martin Luther King when pickup truck stopped at the intersection and unknown occupants exited the truck and fired gunshots. The man accelerated his vehicle immediately, but crashed into several parked cars.

The female victim sustained gunshot wounds to her back and the male victim sustained a gunshot wound to his forearm. Both victims were transported to the hospital where the condition is listed as stable.

Police said a 3-year-old child was inside the victims' car but was not wounded. The child was not injured but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The cause of the shooting is unknown as well, but police said it was a targeted shooting.

Two suspects have since been taken into custody after the suspects tried to interfere with the investigation.
