A scary moment took place in the second inning of Friday’s game between the Cardinals and Diamondbacks at Busch Stadium.
D-backs starter Robbie Ray exited the game in the second after he was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of Luke Voit. Ray delivered his pitch to Voit out of the windup, and had no chance to react to the 108 mph come-backer. He crumpled to the ground initially, and eventually was removed from the game, making it to his feet before being taken off the field on a cart.
Ray had been enjoying a tremendous bounce back season on the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He entered Friday with a 9-5 record and a 3.15 ERA for the season.
