GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Granite City police are warning the public against swatting or calling in a hoax to police to get a SWAT team to respond.

The message comes after a family was the victim of swatting. Around 4:00 a.m. Friday, police were called to a neighborhood in northeast Granite City. Police said a caller told the dispatcher he killed everyone inside the home.

“The subject said people had been shot inside of a residence,” said Lt. Nick Novacich with Granite City police.

Police and first responders then rushed into the neighborhood and officers carrying rifles worked to secure the area. Police were trying to determine exactly what was going on.

Around one hour after police arrived, authorities made contact with those inside and found out everyone inside was fine.

The father of the family told News 4 none of the family members are having disputes with anyone.

Police said the same thing happened to the same family in April.

Novacich told News 4 the person responsible for the call could face a charge of felony disorderly conduct in addition to other charges.

If you have any information on the calls, contact police.
