GILLESPIE, ILL (KMOV.com) -

Lawmakers and Illinois Governor have until Tuesday to reach a deal on school funding or many districts won't get state aid by the time classes start in August.

State Senator Andy Manar and State Comptroller Susana Mendoza brought an urgent message to people in Gillespie, Illinois Thursday night.

"I'm not going to stop until it's done," Manar says.

The Democrat from Bunker Hill is the author of a bill to reform the school funding formula in Illinois, which many say punishes rural downstate districts.

Governor Rauner is threatening to veto all or part of the bill because of pension funding for Chicago Schools.

Mendoza says a number of schools districts may not be able to open on the first day of school if they cannot get the first state aid payment.

Lawmakers say they will send their school funding bill to the governor's desk on Monday setting up a possible showdown over education in the state capitol.
