ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Lawyers representing a former Mizzou student have filed a lawsuit against the Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity and its Mizzou chapter over alleged hazing.

Attorneys with Chackes Carlson, LLP filed the lawsuit on Thursday. It alleges the fraternity regularly forces pledges to participate in vodka chugging as part of hazing rituals.

It also alleges freshman Brandon Zingale, a pledge to the fraternity, was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning after hazing in September 2016. The lawsuit contends he nearly died.

Zingale later withdrew from the university.

Two weeks before the hazing, the lawsuit says the fraternity was placed on probation by the university for providing alcohol to minors previously.

The fraternity later sent News 4 the following statement:

Because this matter involves pending litigation it would not be appropriate to make a statement at this time.  The fraternity and legal counsel will review the allegations and will respond in court.
