EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV) – Hundreds of students got a chance to learn more about track-and-field during the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Annual Field Day.

Olympic Gold medalists Jackie Joyner-Kersee coached eager students during her Annual Field Day at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center.

Kids from ages five to 14-years-old participated in a number of sports during the event and were able to spend time with Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

“It’s really getting young people to think about movement,” said Jackie Joyner-Kersee. “We’re not trying to get you to become the greatest athlete. We’re learning to work together.”

The Annual Field Day started in 2014 as a way for children to participate in friendly competition, but top competitors earn trophies and medals.
