SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A 10-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed by his 13-year-old brother in their south St. Louis apartment Sunday evening, according to police.

Anthony Turner was found with the fatal gunshot wound to the head inside an apartment in the 1400 block of Kealty Lane around 5:45 p.m.

A police investigation revealed Turner’s brother accidentally shot him while they were handling the gun. The teenager was taken into the custody of juvenile authorities.

The boys’ 28-year-old mother was also taken into custody.

The apartment the shooting occurred in is part of the Clinton Peabody Housing Complex in the Peabody-Darst Webbe neighborhood.

Shawn Tyler, a dad who lives across the street from where the shooting occurred, was discouraged to see someone so young lose their life.

“It saddens me to see that a young child’s life has been taken due to some kind of violence, whether it was accidental or on purpose. It’s crazy, I have a 4 and a 5-year-old myself and to see the parent go through what she’s going through...that’s not right,” said Tyler.

The investigation is ongoing.
