ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A 36-inch transmission water main break in downtown St. Louis forced the St. Patrick Center and the Central Library to close Friday.

The break occurred at 13th and Convention Plaza before 4 a.m. causing standing water along the areas of Tucker as well.

Due to the water main break, the St. Patrick Center, located on North Tucker, is closed Friday. It is unknown when it will reopen. Officials with the center are asking for water and food donations, which can be dropped off at the back dock off Hadley Street until 11:30 a.m.

Around 11:30 a.m., officials with the St. Louis Public Library said the location at 1301 Olive Street would be closed for the remainder of the day because the water main break has impacted the flow of water to the building.

Water crews told News 4 they originally planned to have the break under control by 7:30 a.m. but later said there was an issue with another valve at Tucker and St. Charles, which is causing delays in the repairs.

Further details regarding the break have not been released.
