NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A 28-year-old man is accused of resisting arrest following a fatal officer-involved shooting in north St. Louis on July 20.

Around 8:40 p.m., authorities said officers spotted a white Nissan Murano wanted in connection with an assault on a police officer in North County on July 19. Officers set up spike strips near the intersection of Natural Bridge and Goodfellow. The vehicle went through the spike strips, but continued to flee officers. It later crashed on Lillian, police said.

Inside the vehicle was Isaiah Perkins, 27, and Curtis Connelly, according to police. The two suspects exited the vehicle and then ran from police, eventually climbing a fence. Police said Perkins was armed during the pursuit.

According to police, two officers tried to taze Perkins twice, but were unsuccessful and a struggle ensued.

When the struggle ended, Perkins climbed a fence and pointed the gun at the officers. One officer then fired a shot, killing the suspect in the 6100 block of Laura. Perkins’ gun was found at the scene, police said.

Connelly was later taken into custody and, on July 25, charged with resisting arrest. His bond cash-only bond was set at $15,000.

Goodfellow was closed in both directions near the scene following the fatal shooting.

The officer who shot and killed Perkins is an 11-year veteran of the police force. He has been placed on administrative leave and the Force Investigative Unit is investigating the shooting.
