Police: 2 men charged in chasing, shooting woman in drug deal gone bad

Two men are charged in their connection to a mobile shooting that left a woman shot in the head.

Steven Debord and Joseph Vance were charged with First Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action, Distribution of a Controlled Substance. 

Police said investigation revealed that the female victim was shot in the head after a drug deal had gone bad.

On the afternoon of July 19, the woman and another associate got into a vehicle, which was parked in the lot of Acorn Trail and allegedly fled Debord and Vance. The woman and the associate got onto Highway 72, where she sustained the gunshot wound. 

She was airlifted to the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri. 

An investigation revealed that one of the suspects from the chasing vehicle began firing a handgun at the victim's vehicle, police said. 

Debord, 43, and Vance, 37, are both being held in the Phelps County Jail. Both suspects are on a 24-hour hold pending the issuance of their warrants. 

The investigation is ongoing,
