ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

St. Louis Zoo officials tell News 4 when heat is at its mid-afternoon peak there are extra guidelines for how to care for the animals.

The animals are given “blood-sicles”, “fish-sicles” or “meat-sicles” as frozen treats for the animals.

The zoo says they give them out year round but the animals receive more attention to cool down the animals in the heat.
