ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The Muny takes several precautions to deal with the heat, the theater said.

Kwofe Coleman with The Muny said steps are taken to make sure the performers are comfortable. Costumes are designed with the hot, humid St. Louis summer in mind; lighter fabrics are used whenever possible.

When the cast is off-stage, they can cool off.

“Dressing rooms and chorus rooms are air conditioned. There’s plenty of water, fans, cooling towels,” said Coleman.

Hot days have been known to scare off some patrons, but fans were installed in 2013, and they make a difference.

“The fans were absolutely a game changer,” said Coleman.

The fans are kept on throughout the performance. A previous set of fans that were first installed in the 1950s were used to provide a breeze intermission.

The Muny allows patrons to bring in soft-sided coolers that fit under a seat, which allows bottled water and other drinks from plastic bottles to be brought in.
