ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A Barnes-Jewish Hospital employee was robbed in a parking garage across the street from The Rehabilitation Center of St. Louis, in the 4400 block of Duncan, according to The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said the 31-year old female victim was on the fourth floor of the garage when a man with a gun approached her and demanded her cell phone and keys. The carjacker drove off in the victim's SUV but lost control after pulling out of the garage and struck a light pole, according to police.
Joe Bisognano told News 4, "We heard the crash and saw the guy run out of the car, followed by a whole bunch of cops."
Police said security officers chased the suspect but lost sight of him near the intersection of Laclede and Newstead
The employee was not injured, according to hospital officials.
The parking garage is used by doctors, nurses and patients.
"I guess I should be more concerned than I have been about going to my car alone at night, which we do a lot," said Marianna Moskoff, who is a nurse.
The suspect is described as an African-American man in his late teens or early twenties, with a thin build and short afro. Police said he was wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts with red and white accents and black shoes.
