RICHMOND HEIGHTS (KMOV.com) -

Richmond Heights city officials on Monday looked at a plan that would consolidate fire department leadership with four neighboring cities.

The cities that would join Richmond Heights in the new plan are Clayton, Maplewood, Brentwood and Rock Hill.  One chief would be chosen to lead all five departments.

"There's a little cost saving to the city of Richmond Heights but this is one really for the efficiency of services," says Richmond Heights Mayor Jim Thomson.

At Monday's Richmond Heights City Council meeting, officials formally looked at the plan, and heard an endorsement of it from Clayton Mayor Harold Sanger.

Some firefighters have spoken out against the plan saying it would result in shooter staffing.

All five cities would have to approve the plan.
