ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Foster families in Missouri received letters this week notifying them of a cut in benefits, the direct result of budget cuts from the governor.

The letter states a reduction of 1.5 percent for families of foster children and parents of special needs adoptions.

"I know there are families that are hurting so much with that letter," says Kristina Wilmoth of Springfield, Mo., a former foster parent and who adopted four special needs children.

Wilmoth says she has received a big response after posting the letter on social media.

On June 30, Governor Eric Greitens announced $250 million in budget cuts because of lower than expected tax receipts and rising healthcare costs.
