One of St. Louis’ favorite BBQ Restaurants is opening its first location out of state.
Sugarfire Smokehouse has about six locations in the St. Louis metro but will be opening in downtown Indianapolis this fall.
“I think we’re pretty much saturated in St. Louis,” said chef and owner Mike Johnson. “We have 6 locations and Indy is a natural couple hours outside of STL where we can still control it.”
Johnson said the idea of Indianapolis came earlier this year when Sugarfire served as the official barbecue of the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The new location in Indianapolis will feature all the Sugarfire classics and some local beer and a local favorite – fried pork sandwich.
Johnson said they average about 1,000-2,000 customers a day at the Olivette location.
He also said they’re looking at expanding even more maybe out West or East Coast.
