ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

A woman wants St. Charles County to name a new park after her son, a fallen Marine.

Julie Vinnedge’s son Phil died when an IED exploded near the truck he was driving in Afghanistan in 2010. Vinnedge said her son was 10-years-old when the 9/11 attacks occurred, but it had an incredible impact on him.

“He actually told me he wanted to go into the military to get the bad guys,” Vinnedge said.

She said she wants St. Charles County to name the new park, located at the intersection of Kisker and Pitman Hill, after her son.  Vinnedge said she also wants the park to honor all veterans.

“It is honoring all that gave their lives, making it personal, giving a name and face and then you have time to reflect and think,” Vinnedge said.

The St. Charles County Council has been considering the name Baltic Creek Park, but now is having a nine-member committee come up with a recommendation for a name for the new park.

Vinnedge has been collecting signatures on a petition to name the park after her son. She says more than 4,000 people have signed so far.
