KMOV.COM - It appears Kid Rock may be gearing up for the 2018 midterm elections.

Twitter blew up on Wednesday after Kid Rock tweeted a link to his website, kidrockforsenate.com.

One thing to note is that Kid Rock did not confirm he is running for Senate, rather, confirming the website, kidrockforsenate.com is in fact real.

While this isn't a clear confirmation he is running for Senate, it has sparked a firestorm of responding tweets.

While this is most likely a publicity stunt, it's not completely out of the realm of possibilities. Many celebrities and musicians have run for office in the past.

  • After getting frustrated with his inability to get a permit for his restaurant, Sonny Bono ran for mayor of Palm Springs in 1988. He lost.
  • Wycleaf Jean drummed up support for Haiti after the devastating earthquake that left the country in ruins. After that, he tried to run for president, however, was forced to end his campaign after it was determined he no longer qualified as a resident.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger, famous for his Terminator movies, successfully became Governor of California during a recall election. He is on record saying he would run for president if he were an American born citizen.

Only two celebrities, however, have achieved the highest office in the United States.

  • Ronald Reagan was a Holllywood actor, turned Governor, before becoming the 40th President of the United States in 1981.
  • Donald Trump, self made billionaire and celebrity, became President of the United States in 2017, after one of the hardest fought elections modern history.
