ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Several St. Louis City leaders are pushing to find more money for the Circuit Attorney’s Office as part of an effort to fight crime.

Several aldermen are trying to approve an additional $390,000 for the office, saying the money will come from new revenues from the city’s use tax.

The Circuit Attorney’s Office said is looking for extra money to help hire staff and encourage witnesses to to come forward.

“To truly address the issue of public safety, you can’t just stop at putting additional officers on the street or just adding more money to the police department. You also have to address the issue of the court system,” said Aldermanic President Lewis Reed.

A vote to appropriate extra money is scheduled for Friday.
