MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

An online petition is now gaining signatures against a proposed ice rink complex at Creve Coeur Lake Park.

The Change.org effort already has 6,000 signatures.

On Tuesday night, a group of people tied ribbons to trees on part of the 40-acre site at the entrance to the park where the rinks would be built.

The complex, approved by St. Louis County officials in December, would serve youth hockey and be a practice facility for the St. Louis Blues.

"I love the Blues as much as anyone else, but the facility does not need to be located here," says Mitch Leachman of the St. Louis Audobon Society.

Patrick Quinn of the Legacy Ice Foundation says his group is now only waiting on approvals at the state and federal level to build the ice facility.
