ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The St. Louis Fire Department was was out in the community on Monday helping residents stay cool.

A partnership between the fire department and Cool Down St. Louis is helping people across the area get air conditioning units installed in their home.

Fire crews will install air conditions units in homes for the elderly and disabled when the temperatures get to extreme levels.

"It's upwards of 97, 98 degrees now," said St. Louis Fire Captain Garon Mosby. "So these really are gifts of life."

Captain Mosby said a lot of people are in homes using only a ceiling fan, which circulates nothing but warm air.
