For 2nd weekend in a row, MoDOT closing over 2 miles of WB I-44 in downtown St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Over two miles of westbound Interstate 44 will be closed in downtown St. Louis for the second weekend in a row.

Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, July 21, MoDOT will close the westbound lanes of the interstate from the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge to the Poplar Street Bridge. All lanes of westbound Interstate 44 and southbound Interstate 55 from the Poplar Street Bridge to the Interstate 44/55 split will also be closed.

About an hour before the closure, MoDOT will close the Interstate 70 express lanes, ramp from Washington Avenue to westbound Interstate 44, the South Memorial Drive ramp to westbound Interstate 44/southbound Interstate 55, ramp from westbound Poplar Street Bridge to southbound Interstate 55/westbound Interstate 44 and the ramp from the westbound Poplar Street Bridge to Walnut/eastbound Interstate 44.

Drivers should continue on Interstate 64 and exit at 21st Street/Market then take Market to Jefferson south to the Interstate 44 interchange to detour from the westbound Poplar Street Bridge to southbound Interstate 55/westbound Interstate 44.

Drivers needing to detour from Interstate 70/westbound Interstate 44 should take Tucker to Lafayette to the Interstate 55/44 interchange.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 24.

Last weekend, MoDOT crews closed the same stretches of roadway to replace joints along the bridge over Third Street.
